The wolves in this painting were inspired by motifs found on engraved shell at the Spiro Mounds in Oklahoma. The poodle (named “Running with Scissors” by Victoria) was inspired by a standard poodle named “Truffles” whose owner is a long-time friend of the artist and her family. The painting is acrylic on gallery-wrapped canvas with the wolf figures continuing over the edges of the painting onto the sides.
All tribes had a warrior group or “Society.” Often there was a need for humor to ease the intensity of the emotions that could develop and a “Clown Society” served as a means to preserve the harmony and balance of the tribe.
