Raven Mocker - SOLD

28.5” in height X 24.5" in width

Found on engraved shell from the Spiro Mounds in Oklahoma. The Raven Mocker, according to Cherokee legend, flies through the night with the sound of a strong wind, trailing sparks behind him. While he flies he makes a cry like that of a raven and whoever hears him knows that someone will soon die. No doubt Indian children heeded their parent’s warnings not to stray far from them at night, lest they become victims of the Raven Mocker. The painting is gouache on paper under glass and is framed and matted.

Price: $950
