This piece has won 1st place at the 2003 Creek Council House Art competition in Okmulgee, OK, 2nd place at the 2003 Tulsa Indian Art Festival and 1st place at the 2005 Five Civilized Tribe’s Art Under the Oaks show in Muskogee, OK. These figures were inspired by the shell engravings from the Spiro Mounds in eastern Oklahoma. The concentric bands of designs were found on various artifacts of pottery, hammered copper and engraved shell from several mound sites such as Spiro, Moundville in Alabama and Cahokia in Illinois.
