Head and skull motifs from engraved shell found at the Spiro Mounds in Oklahoma. Dragonflies have not been found on Mound Builder artifacts but the design contains elements found on engraved pottery from a Mound Builder site. Red earthenware with green specialty glaze. The vase was inspired by the encounter between two different forms of artwork one historic, the dragonfly lampshades produced by Louis Comfort Tiffany, and one prehistoric, the artwork of the Mound Builders. The vase has won two major awards in juried competition: It won a 2nd Place Award in the Pottery Category at the 2006 Tulsa Indian Arts Festival in Tulsa Oklahoma, and a 2nd Place Award in the Wheelthrown Pottery Category at the 2006 Art Under the Oaks Indian Arts Festival at the Five Civilized Tribes Museum in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Victoria will provide certificates and/or ribbons to the buyer authenticating the awards.
